About Us
Fierce Flix is a non-profit social justice project that provides mentorship, film and media education, and leadership development to gender expansive and femme youth in Western North Carolina. Our goals are to interrupt a system of patriarchal gender inequality and support a youth led movement for social change through film.
Our queer and gender expansive organizers consist of creative and collaborative volunteers from college faculty, professional educators, filmmakers, and folx who work professionally with queer and trans youth. The film curriculum was designed by Charlotte Taylor (MFA, Film and Video Production, Warren Wilson faculty, 18 years of higher education teaching experience and 12 years of youth filmmaking experience) and Oscar Keyes (PhD, Art Education, VCU Multimedia and Learning Librarian) over the last 6 years.
We've been running camp since 2016, and a number of our volunteers are former campers who are returning now as young adults to mentor our new campers!

What We Do
Fierce Flix is a week long day camp that takes place in the summer. Over the course of a week, campers write, direct, shoot, and edit their own music videos for local artists!

Campers take workshops with local filmmakers, learn to use cameras and edit, and explore the herstory/theirstory of film history.

Campers work together with other queer, trans, nonbinary, and femme youth to make their videos, forming production teams on the first day of camp. Our Vibes Squad works with campers throughout the process to learn communication and community care skills throughout the process.

As a social justice camp, campers participate in workshops, discussions, and activities about queer and trans liberation. We celebrate radical joy, embrace gender euphoria, and dream together of liberated queer futures.
